Irina Chelysheva

Medical Bioinformatician

Irina has a Medical Degree followed by PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Hamburg. From 2015, she mainly focused on the bioinformatics part of the research and moved from the wet-laboratory to the data analysis. She was working with a variety of deep-sequencing data, including Ribosome profiling, RNA sequencing, T-cell receptor sequencing, and Oxford Nanopore sequencing.

Irina joined OVG in 2019 as a postdoctoral medical bioinformatician. She is involved in the statistical analysis of big datasets derived from the vaccine trials. In addition, Irina is developing the new pipelines allowing to increase the quality of the output from deep-sequencing data.

She is proficient in R and Python programming languages and besides the research activity, Irina is organising a weekly Big Data Club within the OVG and periodically leading the programming tutorials - Code Clinic - at Big Data Institute. She is a developer and tutor of R for biologists course within the MSD Skills Training Program.

Irina is an active member of the Early Career Research Committee of the Department. She is also participating in the Careers working group within the Oxford Research Staff Society (OxRSS) and represents the Department of Paediatrics in the OxRSS committee.
