The Department of Paediatrics oversees a successful academic training programme for clinicians keen to pursue a career in academic paediatrics.

The programme is run in collaboration with the Oxford University Clinical Academic Graduate School (OUCAGS) and Health Education Thames Valley (HETV). 

Appointments are made as NIHR Academic Clinical Fellows, NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturers, or as Clinical Lecturers appointed directly by the Department of Paediatrics. Further information about training in academic paediatrics is available at

Paediatric Academic Clinical Fellows at Oxford usually have a 6 month block of research at ST2 level, and a further 3 month block at ST3. These periods are used to prepare funding applications for further research following the ST3. All ACFs also undertake the post graduate diploma in Health Research (details available at
