BIOGRAPHY
Coen is a postdoctoral research associate who joined the Paediatric Neuroimaging Group in September 2022. He works with Dr. Caroline Hartley. Coen's research focuses on how apnoea impacts early brain development in premature infants. To do so, he records brain activity using electroencephalography (EEG), and other physiological data (heart rate, oxygen saturation, respiration). Through methodological approaches, he aims to combine these multi-modal data to shed light on the short- and long-term impact of apnoea on brain development.
Coen completed his BSc and MSc in Human Movement Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He then conducted his PhD at the Department of Human Movement Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His doctoral research focused on walking development in typically developing infants and toddlers. Through combined EEG - electromyographic (EMG) recordings at different phases of the walking development, he examined the role of the cortex in enabling these young children to walk.
