For my PhD I used Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to examine changes to cortico-spinal excitability after physical activity of different intensities in people with Multiple Sclerosis .
For 15 years I was Head of the CLEAR Unit, the clinical research center at Oxford Brookes University, managing research and trials in association with the Depts of Neurology, Clinical Neuroscience, Centre for Neuro-imaging, Pediatrics, Cardiology and Renal Medicine at University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospitals.
I’ve conducted studies in children and adults with brain/spinal injuries, neurological disease, neuro-developmental and coordination disorders, neurological, physical and cognitive disability, Cardiometabolic disease, Kidney Dialysis patients and other age-related diseases and disorders.
Clinical trials include a series of brain-imaging studies in children, Cerebral Palsy, Motor Neurone Disease, Brain Cancer, Muscular Dystrophy, Special Educational Needs, Dyspraxia, Paraplegia/Tetraplegia, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Stroke, Huntington’s Disease. I was involved with the assessment of a device to determine concussion in elite Rugby players.
