For my PhD I used Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to examine changes to cortico-spinal excitability after physical activity of different intensities in people with Multiple Sclerosis .

For 15 years I was Head of the Clinical Exercise and Rehabilitation (CLEAR) Unit, the clinical research center of the Movement Science Group at Oxford Brookes University, managing research and trials in association with the Depts of Neurology, Clinical Neuroscience, Centre for Neuro-imaging, Pediatrics, Cardiology and Renal Medicine at University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospitals.

I’ve conducted studies in children and adults with brain/spinal injuries, neurological disease, neuro-developmental and coordination disorders, neurological, physical and cognitive disability, Cardiometabolic disease, Kidney Dialysis patients and other age-related diseases and disorders.

Clinical trials include a series of brain-imaging studies in children, Cerebral Palsy, Motor Neurone Disease, Brain Cancer, Muscular Dystrophy, Special Educational Needs, Dyspraxia, Paraplegia/Tetraplegia, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Stroke, Huntington’s Disease. I was involved with the assessment of a device to determine concussion in Rugby players.
