Many congratulations to all runners, supporters and volunteers ( Tom Roberts, Stephan Sanders, Chelsea Larabee to name a few) who braved sweltering conditions at the Town and Gown 10k race yesterday to represent the MDUK Oxford Neuromuscular Centre (ONMC). The team organised several fundraising events in the lead up including a pub quiz, bake sale, and raffle, raising £1,772 for the charity and smashing their £1,500 target. Many thanks to everyone who baked cake, joined the quiz and supported their efforts! |

| Dr Anna Rose, a clinical lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics, has been awarded the Rising Star Award 2024 by the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG). These awards celebrate the outstanding contribution of members to the work of CCLG and children with cancer, acknowledging and rewarding teams and individuals for best practice excellence. Winners were nominated by their fellow CCLG members, and selected on key criteria including the impact of their work.

Yama Mujadidi, Programming and Data Management Director for the Oxford Vaccine Group, has won the award for Achievements in STEM at the British Muslim Awards 2024. This event is one of the most prestigious in the British Muslim community, recognising and celebrating the achievements and contributions of British Muslims in various fields. As well as showcasing the achievements of remarkable individuals the awards aim to encourage greater diversity and inclusivity.

A new Data Pathfinder tool is now available highlighting solutions for storing research data, following Microsoft reductions to storage limits. A
Microsoft recently announced substantial reductions in storage for Microsoft 365 Education licenses and a small proportion of Oxford users (around 3%) are using over the OneDrive quota of 100GB. Consultations suggest that much of this additional storage is research data.
Working with representatives from academic divisions, the new Data Pathfinder tool highlights solutions based upon selected criteria, focusing on research data which is in active use. Options for research data that is ready to be archived can be found on the Post project data preservation page.
The University continues to lobby Microsoft for an extension to their implementation of the new storage allocation. Support for managing research data, can be found on the Research Data Oxford website via the link below.

| 2024 Awards for Excellence |

|
The annual Awards for Excellence scheme within the department is now OPEN for nominations! Applications are encouraged from all areas and disciplines and prizes include a lump sum worth up to 3% of the recipient's salary.
The Scheme is designed to reward those employees who have performed well in all the key areas of their jobs, and have consistently demonstrated exceptional performance, significantly above that which might reasonably have been expected for their grade. The review period is 1 April 2023 to April 2024.
Generally, all staff in grades 1-10 with more than six months’ service are eligible for nomination for an award. Please find more information on eligibility (including a few exceptions) here.
The administration team would like to encourage staff members to consider nominating themselves using the self-nomination form. Line managers can still nominate their staff member for the award using the Manager nomination form, which can be downloaded here. Line managers should conduct an initial review of all the staff they manage against the criteria for awards in order to help ensure a broad range of nominations across all grades and types of work. |

Activities include a workshop on the menopause, a Multaka Tour at the Pitt Rivers Museum, a Thriving at Oxford showcase and a panel discussion on the importance of a thriving research group. | Bridging the divide: Translational research with a canine model of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy |

There is no cure for the fatal and devastating childhood onset, X-linked disorder, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Many groups, are evaluating novel and sometimes sophisticated treatments, either with a view to replace the absent protein, dystrophin, or to mitigate against the deleterious effects of its loss. Richard Piercy, Professor of Comparative Neuromuscular Disease at the Royal Veterinary College, will discuss the founding of the DE50-MD canine model of DMD, maintained at the Royal Veterinary College, studies conducted that make this arguably the best characterised large animal model of this disorder and our use of the model in clinical veterinary trials, including in gene editing and gene therapies. Oxford Vaccine Group would like to invite you to take part in a study investigating how two common respiratory germs alter the environment in your nose and impact human health. The knowledge gathered in this project could be used to help develop new interventions such as anti-virus agents and drugs targeting the host body response. If you are 18 to 55 years old, you may be eligible to take part. We will provide reimbursement for your time, inconvenience and travel. The study duration is approximately 10 weeks.
