MDUK Oxford Neuromuscular Centre marks 5-year anniversary
 
The Department of Paediatrics at the University of Oxford is celebrating the five-year anniversary of a partnership with MDUK. Founded in January 2019, the MDUK Oxford Neuromuscular Centre was set up to drive the development of new therapies and to increase the capacity of clinical trials for muscle wasting and weakening conditions in the UK.

Oxford University professors on the record for World Cancer Day
 
This year, to commemorate World Cancer Day which fell on Sunday 4 February, four Principal Investigators from the University of Oxford, including Andi Roy, Professor of Paediatric Haematology at the Department of Paediatrics, spoke on the record about their work and how they’re helping the fight against cancer.

Future Leaders Fellowship Scheme
 
 
UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships (Round 9)
 

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has pre-announced Round 9 of the Future Leaders Fellowship (FLF) Scheme.  The Future Leaders Fellowship Scheme is a cross-council scheme that supports early career researchers with outstanding potential, to tackle challenging research and develop their own careers. Oxford is able to submit a maximum of ten applications to the Scheme therefore an internal coordinated process is being run to select the applications that will be put forward. 

Oxford’s internal deadline is 12 noon on Monday 11 March 2024.

New Funding Opportunity: MSD Bridging Salary Scheme 
 

The new MSD Bridging Salary Scheme will provide bridging salaries for researchers on fixed term or open-ended externally-funded contracts while they seek longer-term salary support. Researchers up to Grade 8.10 (or equivalent) can apply for up to six months’ of salary costs. The first application deadline is 12 noon on Wednesday 13 March 2024. There will be four rounds per year with deadlines following in June, September and December 2024. Please direct questions to research@medsci.ox.ac.uk.

Seeking an academic champion for Women in Entrepreneurship
 

The IDEA (Increasing Diversity in Enterprising Activities) Advisory Group is welcoming applications for the role of Academic Champion for Women in Entrepreneurship. This role will be the strategic academic lead on supporting and increasing diversity in entrepreneurship (specifically for students and early career researchers). It represents an outstanding opportunity for a member of the academic staff to play an influential and highly visible role developing and implementing strategy, and action to enhance the entrepreneurship environment at Oxford. The role will provide the right candidate with experience in academic leadership at institutional level and the chance to make a difference to future provision and support for entrepreneurship. Deadline: Monday 19 February, 5pm

Dr Doyin Atewologun, Dean of the Rhodes Scholarships at the University of Oxford, will be the guest speaker for the second IDRM EDI Seminar. She is an expert on leadership, diversity, intersectionality and organisational culture. There is an open invitation to join Doyin for a networking lunch at 1pm in the IDRM kitchen on the ground floor, prior to her talk.

OX5 Run 2024
 
24 March 2024 | Blenheim Palace | 9am to 2pm
Join members of staff across the Department to run the OX5 RUN - the biggest annual fundraiser for the Oxford Children's Hospital. This is a five mile run, jog or walk around the beautiful Blenheim Palace and all funds raised will go to Children’s Services throughout Oxford University Hospitals. This includes Children’s Intensive Care, Emergency areas, and the Horton General Children’s Ward. Your invaluable support helps make a significant impact on the lives of the thousands of young patients treated in our hospitals each year. Congenital disorders of autophagy and intracellular trafficking

This is one of a series of MDUK seminars which will discuss congenital disorders of autophagy and intracellular trafficking - a novel class of neurometabolic disorders linking aberrant neruodevelopment and neurodegeneration. The seminar is hosted by Dr. Sithara Ramdas and will be given by Prof Heinz Jungbluth, who is Professor of Paediatric Neurology at King’s College London and Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at the Evelina Children’s Hospital, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

National Student Survey opens for 2024
 
 
 
This year's National Student Survey (NSS), which surveys all final year undergraduates at UK universities, opened on Friday 26 January. If you have received a unique link inviting you to take part, please do respond. The results will help us to identify areas of good practice and those in need of improvement.
