Professor Carlo Rinaldi wins 2024 OHC scholar award |
|

Carlo Rinaldi, Professor of Molecular and Translational Neuroscience, has been awarded a 2024 Oxford-Harrington Rare Disease Scholar Award for his work on an Isoform-Switch Oligonucleotide Therapy for Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy. He is one of 10 scientists selected for OHC’s first annual award to advance academic discoveries into clinical practice. The grant includes funding and personalised therapeutics development support.

Ineos Oxford Institute makes award to OVG project tackling AMR |
|
|
The Ineos Oxford Institute for antimicrobial research (IOI) has awarded over £2m to six projects across the University, including one at the Oxford Vaccine Group. Professor Daniel O’Connor, who is leading a project addressing how different antibiotic treatment strategies impact the gut microbiome and the spread of antibiotic-resistant genes, is one of the six.

Apply for funding to develop and test novel therapeutics, medical devices, diagnostics and other interventions. You can apply for academically-led translational projects that aim to either:

BBSRC Pre-announcement: Mid-range equipment for biosciences |
|
|
Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) have announced the 2024 round of their ALERT ‘mid-range equipment for biosciences research’ scheme. This funds equipment between £200k - £1.5m that underpins capability across all scientific areas within BBSRC remit.

NIHR Research Capability Funding (RCF): 2024-25 Focused Call
|
|
|
Researchers at OUH and the University of Oxford are invited to apply for RCF funding to help develop competitive grant applications for NIHR programmes (qualifying programmes can be found at the link below). The purpose of this focused call is to enable researchers to fund backfill activities and provide additional time for the development of NIHR grant applications. The RCF funding requested should be in the range £20,000-50,000 and the applicant must ensure that the activities can be initiated in time for them to be completed by 31 March 2025, because the RCF award to OUH cannot be carried forward to the next financial year. |

MSD Bridging Salary Scheme Round 4
|

Providing bridging salary for researchers on fixed term or open-ended externally-funded contracts while they seek longer-term salary support (match funding from the department is required). Researchers up to Grade 8.10 (or equivalent) can apply for up to 6 months’ of salary costs. Next deadline: Wednesday, 4th December.

Vision Zero - Road Safety Event

Vision Zero is a campaign committed to making your journey safe and sustainable, emphasising sustainable commuting such as cycling, walking (with or without public transport) and scooter riders. This year, the University is collaborating with Oxfordshire County Council to organise the Vision Zero road safety event on Monday 4th November between 10am and 7pm on Broad Street. The event is open to University students and staff and the greater Oxfordshire community and will be accompanied by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue’s “Be Bright Be Seen” campaign. |

Portrait Photographer at JR – Do you need a portrait taken? |

New staff starting at the JR are welcome to have their portrait photos taken (for professional use only, e.g. website biography page) on Wednesday 6 November, from 9.30am to 12:30pm. The portrait photographer, Nasir Hamid, will be at the JR Level 3 Entrance Foyer (the corridor between the academic wing and the Women’s Hospital) taking staff portrait photos.
