Important information on Oracle Java Licensing

Java is widely installed as enabling software to run certain applications. The University must show that all Oracle Java SE 8 and 11 use across the collegiate University is appropriately licensed, including colleges and academic departments. Even a single Oracle Java SE installation not covered by an existing license puts the University at risk of significant financial claims. As such, the University must confirm the licence arrangement for all devices across the whole University for all Oracle Java SE installations, and remove Oracle Java SE where it is not required or move to an alternative.

If you use your own device for working on University business or with University systems, or self-manage your University computer you need to confirm that your Oracle Java SE 8 or 11 is appropriately licensed, or remove it. Check your use of Oracle Java and see what actions you should take. For further help contact your local IT support, if in a college or academic department, or the central IT Service Desk. If you are using a device managed by your local IT Support staff or IT Services, they will check this and contact you if necessary.
