| Staff Survey highlights 2023 |

2023 was a transformative year for our Department, and together, we have made significant strides towards fostering a workplace that celebrates differences and embraces the strength found in our diverse perspectives. This progress is evidenced in the results of the 2023 Staff Survey, conducted by the Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Committee, and highlights of which are now available via the link below. The data indicates an improved uptake of Personal Development Reviews, a better work-life balance for staff, and more social events for Early Career Researchers amongst other things. The committee is planning to deliver further events over the course of 2024 and to continue its mission to build a cohesive, inclusive and diverse community.

| First in-human trials for Nipah Virus |

|
The University of Oxford has launched a new clinical trial to test a vaccine against the deadly Nipah virus. This is the first-in-human trial of the ChAdOx1 NipahB vaccine, being developed by researchers at the University's of Pandemic Sciences Institute. Fifty-one people aged 18 to 55 will participate in the trial, which is being led by the Oxford Vaccine Group within the Department for Paediatrics, and funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).

The University is looking to update its Open Access Publications Policy to incorporate rights retention - a legal mechanism that allows researchers to make author accepted manuscripts of journal articles and conference proceedings available open access, at the point of publication, when other routes to open access are not available. This meeting aims to discuss the proposals ahead of a request to ratify the change to University Statute XVI . |

Oxford PA and EA Communities of Practice Group is where best practice is shared and support offered to PAs and EAs across the University. This is a friendly and enthusiastic community and we warmly welcome new joiners. We have our own Teams site and regularly post and solve queries related to all aspects of our role. We have held an annual conference for the past two years and hold occasional social events too.

| Nominations are now open for the Vice-Chancellor's Awards 2024.
These awards recognise the achievements and celebrate the success of staff across Oxford University – from our academics and researchers to professional, technical and support staff; whether they are in colleges, divisions, departments, central services, libraries, museums or elsewhere. Nominations close at midday on Monday 19 February and winners will be announced at a special ceremony hosted by the Vice-Chancellor at the Sheldonian Theatre on 8 May.

Sign up for Jim's Bootcamp: Free fitness sessions at the IDRM every Wednesday lunchtime, designed to push you to your limits in a friendly and encouraging environment. No weather, no matter how bad, stops these sessions. Come sun, rain or snow you are still pushed to keep moving and enjoy yourself to the fullest.
The sessions will last one hour and are tailored for all fitness levels: from athletes keeping fit and mixing-up their training, to those who wish to start or returning to exercise. Jim uses equipment such as; tyres, sand bags, cargo nets and more. The goal is to get your whole body working.
