Looking after you
Bullying and harrassment pilot
A new online platform is now available for University employed staff, providing support, guidance and services relating to bullying and harassment. As well as this, Report + Support can be used to tell the University about an incident or concern of bullying or harassment, experienced or witnessed. The platform is used by over 90 universities and data gathered from it will provide insight to inform the University’s prevention work.

Wellbeing fair at BDI
The Old Road Campus will be hosting a ‘Wellbeing Fair’ in the atrium of the Big Data Institute on Thursday 22 February from 12.00 to 13.30. The fair offers the opportunity to engage with reps from a variety of staff networks and explore support and volunteering opportunities on offer from local charities.  All staff and students in the Medical Sciences Division are welcome to attend. No registration is required, just turn up and explore!

Wellbeing Week
Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM) will be running their annual Wellbeing Week from Monday 26 February to Thursday 29. The week is comprised of a series of talks and workshops to promote staff and student wellbeing. Colleagues across MSD are welcome to sign up to the online sessions.

Funding opportunity
Participatory Research Seed Fund

The Participatory Research Seed Fund is now live. The fund is open to applications from researchers and professional services staff within the Medical Sciences and Social Sciences divisions and offers awards of up to £4,000 for projects that supports participatory research – activities that involve researchers, members of the public and/or practitioners working together.  Deadline for applications: 12 noon, Friday 1st March

It is so important that we take a moment each year to pause and celebrate all the amazing people across this Department and wider institution. Fantastic work is being done, and these awards are dedicated to recognising and celebrating individual and team successes. All the awards have been brought together  this year to help us share our fantastic achievements in teaching, research and other areas – cross-pollinating ideas and inspiring each other with our commitment to Oxford's mission.

How to commercialise your research
15 February 2024 | IDRM Seminar rooms | 12.30pm to 3pm
Teams from Oxford Science Enterprises (OSE), EnSpire, Oxford University Innovation (OUI) and the Translational Research Office (TRO) will give introductions into translational research, commercialisation of research and spin outs. Presentations should take no more than one hour and are followed by a networking session where lunch will be provided.

Collaborate for Green Action Week
19 to 23 February 2024 | Across the University
This year, Green Action Week is running a full and exciting programme delivered by over 30 partners across the University from departments and colleges to SU, students’ societies, volunteer groups and suppliers. Take part in an art workshop, learn about sustainable lab work, participate in departmental Green Day, hear about the experience of minorities in the climate movement or just go out to enjoy nature with one of the many walks planned. There is something for everyone so do get involved.

Rare Disease Day Webinar

The Oxford-Harrington Rare Disease Centre will be hosting a live webinar on Advancing Novel Therapies for Rare Diseases. Ineos Oxford Institute on antimicrobial research (IOI) updates

22 March 2024 | Mathematical Institute | 11am to 1pm
Prof Stewart Cole, Executive Chair of the IOI, will present medium-term plans, including new IOI collaborative calls to support an Oxford-wide AMR network launched with Professor Craig MacLean, Professor of Evolution and Microbiology in the Department of Biology. Over the last year Craig has been working with colleagues across the University to facilitate an Oxford-wide AMR network to increase opportunities for collaborations between researchers and increase the impact of Oxford AMR research.

OX5 Run 2024
24 March 2024 | Blenheim Palace | 9am to 2pm
Join members of staff across the Department to run the OX5 RUN - the biggest annual fundraiser for the Oxford Children's Hospital. This is a five mile run, jog or walk around the beautiful Blenheim Palace and all funds raised will go to Children’s Services throughout Oxford University Hospitals. This includes Children’s Intensive Care, Emergency areas, and the Horton General Children’s Ward. Your invaluable support helps make a significant impact on the lives of the thousands of young patients treated in our hospitals each year. Congenital disorders of autophagy and intracellular trafficking

This is one of a series of MDUK seminars which will discuss congenital disorders of autophagy and intracellular trafficking - a novel class of neurometabolic disorders linking aberrant neruodevelopment and neurodegeneration. The seminar is hosted by Dr. Sithara Ramdas and will be given by Prof Heinz Jungbluth, who is Professor of Paediatric Neurology at King’s College London and Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at the Evelina Children’s Hospital, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Fun, Free, Fitness sessions every Wednesday at IDRM

Join Jim's Bootcamp every Wednesday lunchtime. Designed to push you to your limits in a friendly and encouraging environment. The sessions last one hour and are tailored for all fitness levels: from athletes keeping fit and mixing-up their training, to those who wish to start or returning to exercise. Jim uses equipment such as tyres, sand bags, cargo nets and more. The goal is to get your whole body working.
