Helena Thomaides-Brears

Post Doctoral Research Assistant

Helena Thomaides-Brears is a postdoctoral research assistant working on the typhoid and paratyphoid challenge studies at the OVG lab. She obtained a BSc(Hons) in molecular biology at the University of Edinburgh in 1995 and went on to complete a DPhil in Pathology at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford, in 1999. She then gained extensive experience of antibiotic drug discovery and development during 11 years in a University of Oxford spin-out company (Prolysis Ltd.) and for 2 years at Biota Europe Ltd., a subsidiary of global anti-infective company Biota Pharmaceuticals Inc. During her time in industry Helena led a £1.4M Link Applied Genomics grant and was a member of the Plant and Microbial Sciences Committee for the BBSRC. She is interested in understanding the impact of microbes on the human host and in using vaccination to treat bacterial infections.
