Graduate entry medical student and Junior Dean of Keble College

About me

I am currently a Graduate-entry medical student and I also serve as Junior Dean at Keble college where I support the welfare of a large and diverse student community. Prior to starting medicine, I completed my DPhil (PhD) at the University of Oxford, where I studied the molecular basis for childhood leukaemia.

Prior to starting medicine, I completed my DPhil (PhD) at the University of Oxford (St Edmund Hall, 2018-2022), in the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. My doctoral research investigated the disruption of fetal B-cell-development and why this predisposes young children with Down syndrome to a higher risk of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). I was delighted to have my work published in Nature and to be awarded the Doug Higgs Haematology prize for my research poster and seminar. During my PhD I was selected as a recipient of the MRC WIMM scholarship (4 years), which made this vital research possible.

As a medic, I volunteer with the Oxford Refugee Health Initiative (ORHI) in triage clinics to support vulnerable, displaced people get the healthcare and support they deserve. I have also volunteered for access initiatives to support underrepresented students access the Graduate-entry programme, and postgraduate education more broadly.

Outside my studies, I worked as an independent consultant to help coordinate a global initiative seeking to tackle Differential Attainment within medical research and healthcare, organised by the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO), in collaboration with partners including the Royal College of Physicians, General Medical Council, Wellcome Trust etc.

I am also a passionate social activist, particularly in efforts regarding equality and diversity. I was a member of the Medical Sciences Division (MSD) Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group, supporting the university's medical department become more inclusive and proactive.
