The University of Oxford Department of Paediatrics has a major interest in infectious diseases of infancy and childhood and in paediatric molecular genetics. Subject areas cover a large spectrum of paediatric, medical and scientific research, including:

  • Paediatric Infection and Immunity
  • International Child Health
  • Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes
  • Neonatology
  • Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition
  • Childhood Cancer Research
  • HIV Infection and Immune Control

How to Apply

The deadlines for applications for the DPhil programme are 18 November 2011, 6 January 2012 and 9 March 2012

The standard set of materials you should send with any application to a research course comprises:

  • A Research Proposal
  • CV/résumé
  • Three (3) academic references and
  • Official transcripts detailing your university-level qualifications and marks to date.

The research proposal for applicants to the DPhil in Paediatrics should normally be two pages in length, covering areas such as the background to the research, methodology, expected results and the contribution to the field of learning.

Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine

The Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine fosters research in molecular and cell biology with direct application to the study of human disease. Housing around four hundred scientists, it is proud to be at the forefront of an exciting research field impacting on our understanding and treatment of diseases ranging from Cancer to AIDS. 

Peter Medawar Building

The building houses an inter-disciplinary research consortium which investigates pathogen diversity through a combination of experimental and theoretical approaches, with links to two University divisions:

  • Medical Sciences
  • Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences 

Centre for Clinical Vaccinology and Tropical Medicine


Library Services

 

Bodleian Health Care Libraries provides services to the staff and students of the University of Oxford (mainly Clinical Medicine) and to the staff of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. There are over 20,000 books and over 550 journal titles in the Bodleian Health Care Libraries.

IMSU

IMSU provides Information Technology services, support and advice to the University of Oxford's Medical Sciences Division. Entry Requirements

Indications of proven and potential academic excellence normally including a minimum of an upper second-class (or equivalent) in the undergraduate degree. A research proposal (normally two pages in length) to cover areas such as background to research, aims, methodology, expected results, contribution to the field of learning, etc. Additional Medical Council registration for some projects.

English language requirements: Higher Level
